GALIER, Sarah Carmel
Longtime resident of Palmdale, passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family by
her side on January 14, 2012, at age 96. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October
11, 1915, her family soon moved to Cleveland, Ohio. In 1946 she married John Galier
and lived in Westlake, Ohio until moving to Palmdale in 1964. She and John spent
many hours as volunteers with the Friends of the Palmdale Library and also as poll
workers on elections days for over 25 years. Additionally, she was a longtime member
of the Palmdale Women's Club and the Assistance League of Antelope Valley. She was
active in the Palmdale High School PTA and was also a board member of the Palmdale
Chamber of Commerce. Sarah was a wonderful wife and mother and was truly an
inspiration to her grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, John, Sarah is
survived by her son Peter J. Galier (Carol), daughter Michele Machac (Emil),
grandchildren Gina Woolner (Michael), Christa Galier, Jonathan Galier and great
granddaughter Mikayla Woolner. She also leaves behind a brother, Ross Tantanella,
sister, Josephine Lovano and many dear nieces and nephews, especially Michelle
Garvey (Tom), Vincetta Johnson (Norman) and Dr. Peter C. Galier (Donna). Visitation
will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m., both at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Fr. Serra Parish on Sat. Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. with Mrs. Galier's great-nephew, Father Victor Galier assisting. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Assistance League of Antelope Valley.
