Ruby Arlien Hill, 92, of Palmdale, California, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s of the Valley, 1737 E. Avenue R, Palmdale, CA 93550 with a reception and lunch immediately following. Ruby is survived by her daughter Diane Schaeffing and her husband Jim Schaeffing, her son Craig Hill and his wife Victoria Hill; her grandchildren Tiffany Glancy and her husband Russell Glancy, Steven Hill, Candice Hill, Ashley Priestley and her husband Shawn Priestley and Brett Schaeffing; great grandchildren Evan Custer, Madison Glancy, Brooke Priestley, Ryan Priestley and Kate Priestley; and her Sister Gloria. Ruby was born in Watertown, South Dakota, on April 16th, 1927 to Melvin Haugom and Grace Bjerke and has one sister Gloria and had two brothers, Owen “Oats” and Larry. Ruby grew up in Milton Wisconsin, attended Milton Union High School and later lived in Glendale, Arleta and Palmdale. In high school Ruby was a standout in the decathlon, was cheerleader, a Vice-President and was in the Band Color Guard. Ruby worked on the family farm after High School and then was hired to work at Parker Pen in Janesville Wisconsin in the IBM department due to machinery experience on the farm. Ruby’s brother Oats introduced her to his Navy shipmate, Edward Hill. Edward and Ruby fell in love and were married on April 14, 1948. Ruby worked for ABCO in Burbank and was a comptometer operator. In addition to working full-time Ruby was a beloved homemaker. In retirement Ruby enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. Ruby’s family wants to extend a very special thank you to all the caregivers that assisted her over the past five years.
