BARBOA, Romulo , resident of Lancaster, California since 1989, passed away at the age of 84, in Antelope Valley Hospital on Friday, December 6, 2013, with his wife of nearly 61 years of marriage by his side. Romulo was born in Los Padillas, New Mexico on October 8, 1929, to Ramon Sr. and Clarita Barboa. Romulo grew-up in a large family in the rural setting of Las Padillas during the years following the great depression. Romulo met and married the love of his life Maria on April 11, 1953, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the fall of 1955, Romulo and Maria moved their growing family to Southern California. Through their union of marriage was born Ramon, Claudia, Cheryle, Joseph and Russell. Romulo was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Romulo was an Army Veteran, enlisting at the age of 15, and serving in World War II. With only an 8th grade education and the support of his friends and family, Romulo persevered, attending night school completing the necessary course work at Santa Monica City College to become a licensed electrician in Los Angeles, California a profession he enjoyed throughout his life. Romulo was a devoted husband, farther and servant to his family and God as a faithful Catholic, tirelessly serving his church and community throughout his life. To those who knew Romulo (or Ron) he was more than a friend. He was a mentor, a teacher, and supporter during difficult times as well as good times, and a true leader who cared for the wellbeing of others as much as he cared for his family. Ron was a beloved son-in-law, father and brother figure to his brother and sister-in-laws, and a cherished partner in work and play, an adopted parent by many and a friend to all. Ron’s immediate family members are his beloved wife, Maria, sons Ramon Barboa, wife Cheryl, Joseph Barboa, Russell Barboa Sr., and daughters Claudia Quisenberry, husband Michael, and Cheryle Gildner, whose husband Brian preceded his father-in-law into death in March 2009, and two of his grandchildren Teresa & Russell Barboa Jr. who Ron raised as his own children. Maria and Ron’s children want to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing in Ron’s life, and for bringing him happiness, joy and love in your own special way. Ron knew no stranger, all were his friend and for this we have all been blessed. 2nd Timothy 4:6-8 6 For I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
