Robert Washington

Robert Lee Washington, age 86, passed, on Thursday, September 11, 2014 in Littlerock California. Born June 27, 1928, in Wayne Co., Illinois to Earl and Ruby Washington. Robert attended Elgin High school and graduated in 1947. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1961, serving in the Korean War. He went on to earn a Bachelors of Science Degree from the Eastern Illinois State College in 1954. Robert worked for Los Angeles Unified School District for 35 years. Robert was an honorary member of the Moose Lodge and Kiwanis Club as well as a participating guest of the Native Sons and Daughters of the Golden West (NDGW),(NSGW). Robert enjoyed traveling across the United States, fishing with family, gardening, and was a skilled woodworker. Robert was a patient and generous individual with great spirit, he never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand (minus a few fingers).A kind hello and a big smile was what a person would encounter upon meeting Mr. Washington. Robert is survived by his companion Bea Hastings (and family), son Tony Washington, daughter Stacy Benner, grandchildren, Bradley Benner, Kandice Marsh (Matthew), Gennifer Montalto (Jacob Dillon), Brandon Washington, Andrew Washington (Carmen), Great-Grandchildren, Kayla Benner, Kye Montalto, Kyla Marsh, Danika Marsh, Carmelita Washington, Brother-in-law, Larry Chimbole (and family) Niece, Sandy Allen (and family), his friend, Harold Benner, Pets Queenie Washington & Princess Washington. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lois Mae Washington (Chimbole), 2005. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 19, at the Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 2200 East Avenue S Palmdale, CA. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service as well as the reception immediately following at Gino’s Italian Restaurant (819 West Palmdale Blvd. Palmdale, CA), from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
