Born in Portland, Oregon, and raised in Hollywood, Bob struck out on his own at an early age. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1961 and served as a medical corpsman. A natural entrepreneur, he later founded the successful executive search firm Leon, Roberts, and Beckman, which soon expanded with offices nationally. After several years recruiting executives and key staff for major oil companies, Bob established the energy company American Cascade . He traveled the world in the course of his work, and was truly a self-made man.
Bob’s health began to fail in 1996, but he still owned and managed his company for several years thereafter until he returned to Lancaster, California in July 2009 to be near family. An avid painter, he soon began teaching painting and crafts in the community hall of the Arbor Court apartments, where he lived and became an inspiration to his neighbors. In the last months of his life, Bob had visits from many of his loved ones, and was at peace as he gently left the world. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11am at Desert Lawn Memorial Park with Memorial services to follow at 12:30pm at Arbor Court in Lancaster, both on Saturday, April 28, 2012.
