Loretta McCalman

May 19, 1932 — January 28, 2018

Loretta Caroline McCalman, aged 85, died peacefully on January 28, 2018, in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, with her family by her side.
She was born in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, to George and Alta Clinch. As a teenager, she gained two step parents, George Schambeck and Fredricka “Freddie” Clinch.
In 1951 she married the love of her life, Carl “Mac” McCalman, and they remained happily married for 66 years. She is survived by her loving husband Carl, and her children Martin McCalman (Nancy), Suzi Clipperton (Doug), Mark McCalman (Connie), Lorinda Jeli-Dreiling (Ron), Wally McCalman (Julie), Loretta Bellanger (Mark) and Carl McCalman Jr. (Heidi), brother, Bill Clinch III (Kathy) as well as 23 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Loretta was primarily a homemaker for her large family. She was very active in her church family (St. Mary’s) in both the parish and the American Council of Catholic Women (ACCW). She was a competitive bowler, and received numerous awards.
She was very involved in genealogy and she and Carl traveled extensively researching the McCalman line. Prior to the internet, she would have Carl drive her to a cemetery down a dirt road, in the middle of nowhere, to see a gravesite and explore the records involved.
She and Carl were always up for a road trip. They traveled all over the United States and North America, as well as to Rome, where they were able to renew their wedding vows.  She was able to see the pope several times, and sang in the choir twice for his visit to Los Angeles in 1987.
They relocated to Northern Idaho in 2011, where they live with family. Numerous family members were able visit them in the beautiful Northwest.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Chapel of the Valley Mortuary in Palmdale, Ca. A mass will be held in her honor on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at St. Serra Parish in the small chapel at 42121 N. 60th St. w.
