Joseph Davies

DAVIES, JR., Joseph Potter, “Joe”, Our beloved father passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, after suffering a stroke a week before. His wife, Audria, died peacefully at home six weeks ago.
Joe was born on January 5, 1923, in his grandmother's home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He was the son of Cynthia Bragg Spalding and Joseph Potter Davies, Sr.  Both parents were graduates of the University of Missouri, where his father also graduated law school.  The young family moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma that same year and Joe lived there until graduating high school in 1940.  Joe was called up for service in the Army Air Corps in 1943,and began pilot training. By the time he had finished, WWII had come to an end, but he opted to remain in the service and become a career military man. He was ultimately deployed to war in 1967 and served one year in Vietnam at Phu Cat Air Force Base as the Commander of an Airlift Control organization. He retired in 1973, after 32 years in the Air Force and moved to Palmdale. Joe is survived by his devoted brother, Dr. Bill Davies (Carol), of Lawton Oklahoma; his  children, Jane Davies Gold (Dr. Michael), Joseph Potter Davies, III (Jan), Marilyn Davies Tenbrook (Tim), and Diana Davies Dees (Dennis). He also leaves behind five grandchildren; Catherine Gold Weinberg (Kevin), Sarah Gold, Daniel Gold, Paul J. Haas, and Hana H. Davies. They also leave behind their naughty, but cherished pug, Ricco. Our father was the most positive, understanding and honorable man we have ever known! We were inspired by his life story of growing up poor in Oklahoma, joining the Air Force, seeing the world, and ultimately becoming a loved and respected civic leader in Palmdale. Our entire family was honored by the establishment of the Joe Davies Heritage Air Park. We all loved our visits to the park with him......he had a personal story about each and every plane, and seemed to have known each pilot who flew each plane. WE love you dad, and will miss you terribly.
