YOUNG, John Edward born January 26, 1939 in Alhambra, CA. Passed away August 9, 2015 in Ventura, CA. John’s life was filled with interesting adventures. We don’t know much about his youth, but we do know he started his working career humbly as a cook for the Young Family Restaurant. When beckoned by the sea, he joined the Navy in 1957 and served two years active duty. He then served as a Compton police officer before becoming an LA County Sheriff’ Deputy, a duty from which he eventually retired. Entering the world of business as owner of J&G Productions, he made many contacts as a member of the Better Business Bureau. Further interests included being a Ham radio operator and a cowboy member of the Western Riders who rode in parades. Most of us know more of his recent adventures with the Tallulah and with his deceased wife, Harriette. Together, they loved living aboard the Tallulah at the Ventura West Marina, enjoyed making many dear friends, and enjoying cruising when calm seas prevailed. As a member of the United States Power Squadron, Ventura, he made many friends and taught boating courses as an instructor. John was known as a dedicated and faithful member of his church, Calvary Chapel of Ventura. John's children include Daughters Debra Kay Musgrave (Jim) and Debra Sanchez Young, Sons Robert Clinton Hess (Nadima), Bradley Foster Hess, Carl Dean Hess, Michael Gene Alexander and James Young. He was also a grandfather to 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandkids. A memorial service will be held at 10am Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary.
