John Wood

John Farnsworth "Jack" Wood Jr. was born in Panama Canal to Bernice and John Sr. at Colon Hospital on September 28, 1934 at 9:50 a.m. He passed at the Veteran's Home of California on July 13, 2017 at 3:45 a.m. Soon after Jack graduated from Balboa High School in Panama on June 2, 1953 he was drafted into the US. Army where he served for two years. Once his service ended, he, along with his parents, moved to Wilmington, Delaware. It was in Delaware that he met Peggy June Nolan and her son Steve. Jack married Peggy on August 23, 1958 in Delaware. This marriage would last for almost 47 years until the passing of Peggy on August 7, 2005. Together, they had two sons, John and Keith In 1964, they moved to Montrose, California where, two years later, he would become a member of the Moose Lodge. He was a manager at the Merit Mart in La Crescenta and proceeded to work in Data Processing at RC Cola. In 1976, they moved to Palmdale, California where he would purchase Charlene's & Fosters Freeze. Here, he worked for Lockheed Skunk Works for over a decade until he retired. Years after, he bought a mortgage company and he worked at his son Keith's Sports Store at the A.V. Mall. It was here that he could be around one of his biggest passions: sports. Always the avid sports fan, he loved the Dodgers, Lakers, Kings and the USC Trojans.
If you were blessed to have met Jack you would know of his ever-present smile and the ease he had at cracking a joke whatever the occasion. And hopefully you had the chance to talk to the man or see his fast dancing feet.
We know that he is now with his beautiful wife Peggy, mother Bernice, father John Sr., Stepfather Russ, Brother Greg and countless other friends and family.
He was predeceased by his brother Greg and is survived by sister Carol; sons, Steve (Sheri), John III, Keith; grandchildren, Heather, Jeff, Brett, Brittany, Andrew, Ryan, Kayla, Kyle and great-grandson Ryan.
Our family would like to give special thanks to Giovanna "Gia" Stefanoni. We feel Jack's life lasted years longer due to her constant care, motivation and love.  Services will be held at the Chapel of the Valley Mortuary at 1755 E. Ave. R, Palmdale on Friday, July 21st.
Viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Service begins at 11:00 a.m.
Immediately following Service there will be a Reception at the VFW at 39463 10th St. E., Palmdale.
