John Ackelson

ACKELSON, John Loving husband and gentle giant, went to be with his heavenly Father on Monday, December 16, 2013 while in the arms of his loving wife Dorothy with many family members by his side. Known to most as John Boy, he was famous for his humor, wit and endless supply of jokes. Born on July 20, 1936 in Torrance California, John was the oldest of three children born to Homer and Lola Ackelson. As a young man John served in the US Army in the Korean War and has always loved his country with pride and patriotism. He retired from the US Post Office and was active in his church and community. Most of all, John loved his family. His parents and his daughter, Debbie Butcheck preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife; Dorothy Blair Ackelson, brother; Lon Ackelson, sister; Sue Shube, children; Cindy Ackelson, Georgia Webster (Bruce), Tina Knight (Robert), John Ackelson Jr. (Terrie), son-in-law Gary Butcheck, stepchildren; Chris Blair (Carol), Cathy Rough (Robert), Connie Janes, Janet Young (Richard), Marianne Blair, grandchildren Ginnie, Joey, Nena, Sabrina, Brandon, Kyle, Heather, Shawn, Jeremy, Tabitha, Tasha, Jonathon, Nicole, Jade, Jordan, Dillon, step-grandchildren; Ryan, Stephanie, Brandon, Adam, Garrett, Rachel, Daniel and numerous great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at AV Journey Church in Lancaster on Saturday, December 21 at 2PM.  Chapel of the Valley Mortuary, Palmdale Directors.
