Jo Anna Bell Butler was born on December 24, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Joseph Samuel and Anna Pearl Hauck. Jo Anna was the oldest of six daughters. She received her formal education in the Indianapolis Public School System where she graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. In 1965, Jo Anna became pen pals with her future soul mate Royce Reuben Butler while he was in the United States Army, stationed in Korea. The two never met in person but that didn't stop Royce from proposing to Jo Anna before he was discharged from the Army. Jo Anna accepted and the two were married on March 12, 1966. In 1967, Royce and Jo Anna moved to California and started their family. They had five children, Janine, Royce, Jermaine, LaKeya and Chalae. Jo Anna accepted Christ at an early age. She worshipped the Lord and remained strong in her faith. She attended service every Sunday with her children and prayed for 32 years that Royce would rejoin the church. Royce and Jo Anna joked that she had the longest prayer in history. Her prayer came true and they attended church regularly before joining The Dominion Center in 2009. Jo Anna served on the church's Leadership Committee and as Assistant to Pastor Royce and First Lady Marnisha. She was proud of her family. They all held positions in the church.
