June 3, 1923 — December 22, 2011

Geraldine (Jerry) R. Cotney  Born on June 3rd, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan.  Passed away peacefully on December 22, 2011 in Lancaster, CA, joining her husband who preceded her in death.  Jerry married her first husband, Marshall Rowe Sturtevant on March 20th, 1942 and together they had one son, Fred D. Sturtevant.  They divorced, remaining friends, in 1949.   Jerry met Lloyd Curtis Cotney, who had one son, Garland D. Cotney, and Jerry and Lloyd wed on June 15th, 1950.  Together, they had one daughter, Joella, making their family complete.  They lived most of their married lives in Bellflower, CA, and after retirement, moved to Blythe to live on the Colorado River.  They spent the winters “at the river” and during the summer months they traveled to their second home in Clark Fork, ID to enjoy friends, the beautiful scenery and the great weather.  Jerry’s life took a new turn after the passing of her husband and in 1999 she moved to Lancaster to live closer to her daughter and son-in-law.  She moved into Mayflower Gardens Retirement Community where she loved taking bus trips and playing Bingo with her many friends.  She later moved into Prestige Assisted Living Facility where she enjoyed playing games and going on “Mystery Bus Rides” with her friends and then catching up with the “ladies of her table”, Jenny, Marie and Jan.  Jerry is loved and missed by surviving children, son Fred Sturtevant and his wife Claire of Kent, WA, son Garland Cotney and wife Kathy of Tempe, AZ and daughter Joella and husband Gary Hansen of Lancaster, CA along with 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Jerry’s family would like to thank the “family” (you know who you are!) at Prestige Assisted Living for all of their love, care, help and guidance along with ProCare Hospice.  Also, many thanks to Loly of Comfort Keepers and especially to Selina for your sweet love, gentleness and much needed caregiving~We can’t thank you enough.  Lastly, thanks to Dr. Gonzalo Martinez and his staff at Joshua Medical Group for your endless care and support.  Private services will be held at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.  The family asks that during this busy holiday season, you take a moment to remember Jerry with joy and love and each in your own personal way.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Stand Up to Cancer or to ProCare Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
