Curtis passed to his Heavenly Home peacefully July 23, 2018. Born in Cleveland Tenn, Curtis joined the Army on his 21st birthday, and served as a paratrooper in the 101st airborne. He was one of the heroes who jumped behind enemy lines on D-Day, and fought in the Battle of Normandy, and across Central Europe. He received 4 Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, a Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Combat Theater Ribbons. He was always very humble about his Service. Upon the end of the war, and returning to Tenn, he met and married the love of his life, B Marie Smith. They worked the Smith Family Farm for several years. In 1957 they moved to California, and settled in Palmdale, where they bought a home, and raised 4 daughters. Curtis worked almost 50 years for Great Lakes Carbon, retiring at age 65. He and Marie enjoyed retirement. Curtis or "Smitty", as he was known at "Fin and Feather Club" frequently went fishing, usually with Marie at his side. He also enjoyed hiking and quail hunting in the Owens Valley well into his 70's. They had a beautiful backyard with flowers, and many happy Family gatherings and croque games. Curtis was a man of great Faith, and a dedicated Family man. He taught his daughters honesty, hard work, and a love for the outdoors. Curtis is pre-deceased by his wife of 69 years, B Marie; and by one daughter, Katherine. He is survived by daughters Evelyn, Linda and Sharon; and four grand-children. Curtis was a man of Integrity - respected by all who knew him. One of the "Great Generation" gone, but never forgotten. Graveside services will be at 9:30AM on Thursday August 2, 2018 at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 2200 East Ave S, Palmdale. Friends and Neighbors are welcome.
