Mackenzie, Alexander 84, of Wrightwood CA passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 8th, 2013 after prolonged illness. Born in Ilford, Essex, England on September 4th, 1928, Alec lived through the Battle of Britain while still an impressionable boy. That experience led him to an interest in aircraft and a career in the aerospace industry that spanned over forty years. In 1966 he was recruited by Douglas Aircraft and with his wife Marion and three children, Allison, Ian, and Mary moved to California to work on the DC-8. In September of that year his son Kenneth was born in Lakewood, CA. By 1970 he was working for Lockheed on the L-1011 program and moved his family to Palmdale where he resided for the next eight years. In 1978 Alec and Marion moved to nearby Wrightwood, CA. In the final years of his career Alec worked at Edwards AFB on the B1-B program for Rockwell International (later Boeing). Following family tradition, Alec became a Mason and was active in the Palmdale Masonic Lodge for many years. After retirement, Alec and Marion joined the Wrightwood Lion’s Club and have enjoyed the camaraderie and sense of purpose of that organization ever since. Alec always made close friends wherever he went and will by missed by many, but most deeply by his wife of 61 years, his sister Catherine, his four children and their spouses Larry Chrystal, Nancy Mackenzie, David Grubb, and Heidi Mackenzie, and all twelve grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Feb 2, 2013 at 1:30 pm at the Palmdale Masonic Lodge. You may send condolences to www.chapelofthevalleymortuary.com.
